Our next membership meeting on Thursday, February 26 will feature Lucretia Miller – Duval County Public Schools Teacher of the Year 2008. She has been an educator for eight years in Duval County, and is the Media Specialist at Chaffee Trail Elementary School.

Her expertise are incorporating technology into lessons by developing electronic resources for use in the classroom. She has thoroughly enriched her students educational experience by designing a library website with links and information, of which she has received awards for her world-wide recognition of the website.

In her words:

“To be the heart and hub of the school, the school community and stakeholders must view the school media center as vital – where there are an abundance of current, quality resources to teach each of the standards, interesting literature for students to escape into, a welcoming environment in which to think, absorb and learn and a qualified school library media specialist to tie it all together and be the catalyst for higher-level thinking and increased student achievement. I am proud to say that this reflects the school library at Chaffee Trail” (Miller 1)

Welcome to the new jaxrotaract.org. Our new site features all the things you’ve come to expect from the Rotaract Club of Florida’s First Coast’s web site but in a cleaner style that should be easier for you to read and easier for us to update.

Some of the newest features of the site is our new calendar functionality that uses Google Calendar. You can subscribe to the calendar in your Google accounts and then sync it to your Outlook or other popular calendaring programs (iCal format | XML | HTML).

In addition we have harnessed the power of Flickr to host our photos. This will allow you to easily browse through our photos from our various events and become our contact on Flickr. You could also join the Jacksonville Rotaract group and upload photos from our events.

For prospective members the application has been updated so that you can now type your application directly in the PDF file and either e-mail it to us directly or print and bring with you to one of our meetings. Speaking of meetings they take place the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Haskell Building downtown. (<a href=http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=111+Riverside+Avenue,+Jacksonville,+FL+32202&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=49.310476,79.101563&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=17&g=111+Riverside+Avenue,+Jacksonville,+FL+32202&iwloc=addr">map)

We hope you enjoy our new site and look forward to hearing your comments and seeing you at our meetings. Send us your feedback in the contact form, leave a comment below or join us for our next meeting.
